A chip may affect only enamel or extend deeper into the tooth. The size of the visible chip does not always show the full extent of damage.
What to pay attention to
- Rinse gently — Keep the mouth clean after the injury.
- Save fragments — If you find a piece of tooth, keep it and bring it with you.
- Watch for pain or sharp edges — Sensitivity, pain or tissue irritation are reasons to call promptly.
