A bad taste, drainage, gum swelling or tooth pain can occur with a dental abscess or other oral problem. Evaluation is needed to determine the source.
What to pay attention to
- Do not assume drainage means it is resolved — Symptoms can temporarily change while the underlying problem remains.
- Report fever or malaise — Systemic symptoms are important to share.
- Seek prompt care for worsening swelling — Especially if swelling is spreading or affecting swallowing or breathing.
